The Deep Ball

Jimmy G vs the LA Rams, 10/18/2020

It is insane to me how these NFL starting QBs make millions of $$$ to not have the ability to throw a deep ball during clutch moments. Watching both Teddy Bridgewater and Nick Foles underthrow passes on 3rd and long consistently makes me feel like we, as Seattle-ites, take Russell Wilson for granted.

Same concept while watching the 49ers and LA Rams play earlier today. Jimmy G looked completely uncomfortable throwing on 3rd and long time and time again. He does not look comfortable either in or out of the pocket and shows he cannot make those clutch plays to get his team over the hump. He overthrew a wide-open Kyle Juszczyk. Once Jimmy G develops a consistent deep ball, he will be worth the $$$ the 49ers spent on him. Until then, he will be a slightly above average QB.

My point is how there are very few elite QBs in the league who can make the deep throw. My top-3 QBs are Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen. There can be a debate for Aaron Rodgers but he laid an egg tonight vs TB.

Why are teams spending $$$ on QBs that don’t have the ability to throw the ball deep?
